Ukrainian Railways and Big City Lab held a discussion on how the Lokomotive stadium should be renovated

The Ukrainian Railways and Big City Lab teams held a participatory meeting as part of the Loko City project.

Participants shared their visions of the future of the Lokomotive sports complex, which was destroyed by a Russian missile in early 2024. The reconstruction project is being developed by the Big City Lab team at the request of Ukrainian Railways and with the support of The Howard G. Buffett Foundation.

35 people attended the event. Among them were railway workers, trainers from the Lokomotive complex, parents of children who train there, residents of the Solomianskyi district, and representatives of NGOs and the veterans' community.

The importance of preserving the history of Lokomotive, from the buildings to the traditions of the sports community, was repeatedly emphasised during the event. It is also necessary to create a place where all the awards and prizes of the complex will be presented.

Many participants were concerned about safety issues, such as designing a shelter, installing surveillance cameras and increasing the security level for children's areas. There was also a lot of talk about the need to make the entire sports complex infrastructure accessible so that people with disabilities can train at Lokomotive and attend competitions as spectators.

The opinions of the participants in the event complement the client's brief. Those who couldn’t attend the participatory meeting took part in an online survey and indicated what was important to them in the renovated Loko City.

The concept for the restoration of the “Loko City” multifunctional development center for railway workers was developed at the request of JSC “Ukrainian Railways” with support from The Howard G. Buffett Foundation and is being implemented by Big City Lab in partnership with PUPA.
