The project is being implemented as part of the President of Ukraine's Active Parks programme and is being carried out by the Kyiv Regional Military Administration and the Makariv Village Council in conjunction with The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine. The project was developed and implemented by the teams of Big City Lab, Urban Reform and the Street Culture platform.
The Active Park in Makariv is a new public space for sports, recreation and meetings, which will become a place for teenagers and young people and will bring local residents together.
The community comes alive in shared spaces: they fill cities and towns with life and give people a sense of stability.

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Makariv — the centre of the Makariv Territorial Community — was under Russian occupation for about a month and was 40% destroyed.
During the preparation of the Comprehensive Community Recovery Programme, developed with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation, a survey of residents of 27 settlements was conducted here. Thus, 96% of respondents emphasised the importance of restoring cultural infrastructure, in particular, creating modern sports facilities. And 63% of people noted that tourism should be developed in the community and places for recreation should be created.

There are also places to relax both in the Active Park and on the green slopes around it.

Today, the comprehensive reconstruction of the Kyiv region is ongoing: not only critical infrastructure and housing are being restored, but also spaces that provide people with a quality life.
One of the key elements of this process is public locations for children, teenagers and young people. For example, sports facilities where you can spend time from morning to evening: they create space for development and sports, help maintain mental health and become a meeting place. In addition, such places help to actively involve veterans and new residents in the community.
Construction of the park began in September 2025.
