Active Park // Kozhanka

The project is being implemented as part of the President of Ukraine's Active Parks programme and is being carried out by the Kyiv Regional Military Administration and the Kozhanka Village Council in conjunction with The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine. The project was developed and implemented by the teams of Big City Lab, Urban Reform and the Street Culture platform.

The Active Park in Kozhanka is a new public space with a focus on sports. It will become a place for recreation and gatherings for teenagers, young people, and all residents, bringing the local community together.

Shared spaces bring communities to life: they fill cities and villages with vitality and give people a sense of stability.

Relevance

The Active Park will be located in the central part of the village, near the House of Culture. About a third of Kozhanka's population lives within a 15-minute walking distance. Several neighbouring settlements are within a 30-minute cycling distance, which increases the number of potential visitors to the Active Park.

Currently, the area where the park will be located is almost unused. There is an abandoned stage here, which will be replaced by a platform for holding events.

Overall, the Active Park will complement the village's leisure and sports infrastructure, which is currently underdeveloped.

What will be in the Active Park:

• A multi-court that will combine volleyball, badminton, 5x5 basketball, 3x3 & 5x5 football
• A field for streetball and 3x3 street football
• Panna football
• Concrete skate park
• Fitness workout area
• Children's playground
• Table tennis
• Area with chess/checkers tables

There will be places to relax throughout the location.

Context

Today, the comprehensive reconstruction of the Kyiv region is ongoing. Not only critical infrastructure and housing are being restored, but also spaces that provide people with a quality life.

‍

One of the key elements of this process is public locations for children, teenagers and young people. For example, sports facilities where people can spend time from morning to evening: they create space for development and sports, help maintain mental health and become a meeting place. In addition, such places help to actively involve veterans and new residents in the community.

Construction of the park began in 2025.
